Ingredients

  • 2 large yellow onions thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder optional
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup 240 ml sour cream
  • 1/2 cup 120 ml mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup 60 ml cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  • Caramelize Onions:
  • In a large skillet, melt butter with olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 20–25 minutes until onions are deep golden brown and caramelized. Add black pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine and remove from heat. Let cool slightly.
  • Prepare Dip Base:
  • In a medium bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, and cream cheese. Mix until smooth.
  • Combine Onions and Dip:
  • Chop caramelized onions finely (or leave some texture). Fold into the sour cream mixture. Add lemon juice and mix well.
  • Chill and Serve:
  • Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let flavors meld. Serve chilled with potato chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.
