Apple Butter Recipe

This smooth and velvety apple butter is slow cooked to perfection, bringing out the natural sweetness of apples and the warmth of fall spices. It’s easy to make and a wonderful way to use fresh apples.

Equipment

  • Slow cooker (Crockpot)
  • Peeler and corer
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Immersion blender or countertop blender
  • Airtight jars or containers

Ingredients

  • 6 ½ lbs about 12–14 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prepare Apples:
  • Peel, core, and slice apples into even pieces.
  • Combine Ingredients:
  • Place apples in a slow cooker. Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt. Stir to coat apples evenly.
  • Slow Cook:
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 10 hours, stirring occasionally, until apples are very soft and dark brown.
  • Blend:
  • Use an immersion blender to puree until smooth or transfer to a blender in batches.
  • Final Cooking:
  • Stir in vanilla extract. Continue cooking uncovered on LOW for 1–2 more hours, or until thickened to your liking.
  • Cool & Store:
  • Let apple butter cool completely, then store in airtight containers or jars.
